El telescopio Hubble de la NASA ha logrado captar una imagen de Saturno en la que se puede apreciar cómo en el hemisferio norte ha empezado el verano, informa el sitio del Hubble.

En la foto se aprecia una ligera neblina rojiza sobre el hemisferio norte, lo que puede deberse al calentamiento que proviene del aumento de la luz solar, lo que podría cambiar la circulación atmosférica o, tal vez, eliminar los hielos de los aerosoles en la atmósfera. Según otra teoría, el aumento de la luz solar durante verano estaría cambiando la cantidad de neblina foto-química producida.

"Es sorprendente que incluso en unos pocos años, estemos viendo cambios estacionales en Saturno", comenta Amy Simon, la investigadora principal del Centro de vuelo espacial Goddard de la NASA en Greenbelt, Maryland. Por el contrario, el polo sur justo ahora visible tiene un tono azul, lo que refleja los cambios en el hemisferio invernal de Saturno.

Las variaciones estacionales son largas en Saturno y cada temporada dura más de 7 años. Saturno tarda aproximadamente 10,7 horas en girar sobre su eje una vez y 29 años terrestres en completar una órbita alrededor del Sol.
